From 12 to 21 August 2022, the World Championships for Masters (veterans) in the 35+ and 40+ age categories for women and men were held at Beeston HC in Nottingham. Forty-nine teams from 19 countries participated, including Sri Lanka, Ghana, India, RSA, ARG, AUS, CZE, and several European countries. This was an FIH (Fédération Internationale de Hockey) accredited tournament, and all matches on Field 1 were live streamed with commentary by Simon Mason.

From the Netherlands, there were eight umpires and five officials present. Dutch umpires were present in all four finals! A nice reward for their hard work.

In addition to the 8 Dutch umpires, 35 other referees from various European countries and New Zealand were present.

AXIWI®

During the tournament, the AXIWI communication sets were used daily by the umpires, which helped them better supervise the match together (with the reserve umpire). Good communication between the two umpires is an absolute must to provide clarity to the teams at this level and, of course, to make the right decisions.

The foreign umpires were pleasantly surprised with AXIWI during the tournament and praised the connection’s quality and the sound’s clarity during communication.
